At this time, very few details have been released about the crash. There’s no word on what the other car involved was doing or why the teen driver had to swerve out of the way at the last minute. Could this have been a case of distracted driving? The cause of this crash is likely still under investigation with authorities.

National Teen Driver Safety Week
National Teen Driver Safety Week was from October 19 – 25, this year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) publicized their annual campaign and also made a variety of educational materials available to teens and their parents. This issue is a top priority, because car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens across the U.S.

The Dangers Facing Teen Drivers

In September, we reported on the top five safety concerns for teen drivers. In addition to driver inexperience, teens have a variety of safety issues to be aware of or avoid behind the wheel. Many teen drivers and parents may not be aware that the addition of peer passengers in the car can greatly increase the risk for automobile accidents. Listed below are the top five safety concerns for teen drivers.

Dangers Facing Teens Behind the Wheel

• Drinking and driving • Buckling up for every trip • Distracted driving • Speeding
• Having peer passengers in the car

Officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are urging parents to talk to their teen drivers about issues like distracted and impaired driving. A driver’s education class just isn’t enough. Parents are also encouraged to make contracts with their kids to increase the likelihood of safe driving behaviors. The team at Davis Law Group, P.A. wishes the injured teen driver a quick and full recovery from her injuries.
