Asheville Icy Weather Crashes

Crashes are being reported in and around Asheville this morning. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, multiple wrecks were reported all over the region. At least one collision involved as many as three automobiles. Injuries were reported, but very few details about the multi-car crash were released. There’s no word on those victims’ current conditions. A crash involving an Asheville Police Officer occurred on Long Shoals Road at CP&L Drive, near Ingles. Portions of the roadway had to be closed as crews worked the scene. There was no information about when the road was going to be open again.

If Possible, Stay Home

Law enforcement officials were calling on citizens to stay home, if possible. Roadways in and around the region are covered in snow and ice, and travel is not advised. Keeping the roadways open for emergency response vehicles needs to be a top priority too. As snow continues to fall, first responders are likely expecting to see additional collisions on the icy roadways. If you do have to travel during poor weather conditions, there are ways to improve safety.

Cold Weather Safety Tips

In January, we reported on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) Winter Weather Driving Tips. Officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are also calling on motorists to exercise safe driving habits during inclement weather. Safercar.gov also offers some great tips for driving safe in bad weather. In addition to safe driving tips, they also offer information on how to make sure your car is road-ready when the weather hits.
