$2.9 Million Fine for Triumph Motorcycles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently imposed a $2.9 million civil penalty against Triumph Motorcycles Ltd and Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd. for violating the Safety Act. In addition to their failure to respond to the NHTSA on numerous occasions, they also violated critical reporting requirements involving defective motorcycle parts.

Defective Steering Capabilities in Triumph Motorcycles

This penalty is associated with Triumph’s 2014 recall of more than 1,300 motorcycles due to a defect that could impact steering capabilities and increase the risk of a crash. In addition to a variety of other violations, they failed to report the defect in a timely manner. After a record-setting year for automobile recalls, it’s no surprise that the NHTSA is cracking down on motorcycle manufacturers too.
